Floods Situation in West Malaysia

I guessed some of you must have read about the floodings in West Malaysia. But do we really know how bad it was with over 120,000 people in Johor being evacuated from their homes? To be honest I did not make too much of it being safe and dry in Kuching until that is; I saw these pictures ... of the floods in Kluang (above) and Kota Tinggi (below) and realised the gravity of the situation and thankful that Sarawak has been spared. And sad at the same time that bad news are being suppressed due to the "Visit Malaysia Year 2007". You read almost nothing about this disaster in the local dailies here.

I've been to Johor a few times.... and it'd seem the town planning there is rather poor and untidy....

Kuching is fantastic by comparison.... Doc friend mentioned the counsellors here must be doing a great job

It is terrible.

As Msia is surrounded by water and floods are a common occurance, primary school children should be taught how to swim. Or has that changed now, and they go for swimming lessons?

fh, you'll be ok when there's a flood in kuching. You could paddle up the road to go to the shops, but you'll probably need to dive for the products.

if you see someone cooking 'longhouse' laksa, it will be him!

I am actually in possession of 2 packets of 'Longhouse' brand laksa paste. Specially asked my friend to bring it over for me. She didn't know where the shop was, and I had to confirm with my sister-in-law. Apparently can only buy from Tay Hak Hak. Will cook this soon.

Has anyone got William's telephone number?

hi jack!

all that water made u think of kayaking? ;)

You need to get a stable 'sit-on-top' kayak which is very much easier to get on.

You need to get a "Thule Hullavator" to assist u to get the kayak up and down from your SUV. http://www.thuleracks.com/Thule/featured_product_hullavator.asp
It's a remarkable product and a god-send for those who need help with the kayaks and don't have the upper body strength or physical ability.

I can help you get one in KL for around RM3K (wholesale price)as my friend in KL is selling the kayaks.

Kayaking is a wonderful form of exercise but then again I'm bias as I'm so passionate about it! ;)It has become a way of life for me.

You'll find that once you're on the kayak - you'll be the same as everyone else! It's a great equaliser! Let me take you out when you're next here. We have some of the most beautiful rivers in the world right here at our doorsteps and it's got to be the best kept secret!
