Breakfast @ Tabuan Jaya Market
On Friday morning (12 January 2006) on the way to work I went to pick up Lim Tiong Kiat so that he could join Steven Tan Choon Guan and me for coffee at Tabuan Jaya Market which is just around the corner of Steven's house. Steven studied with us at St Thomas Secondary School until Form 5 and is now a well established contractor specialising in small to medium scale projects in Kuching. Steven's parents ran the St Thomas's Primary School Tuckshop for those of you who can still remember. We were joined by Steven's friends and Tiong Kiat has a first hand experience of what coffee-shop gossips were all about!

Tuckshop where they sell the lovely popia?
Yes! amongst other goodies as well ... One of the best thing about growing up in Kuching and studying in St Thomas! :)
I still remember the tuckshop quite well. Mee kosong (plain noodle) was 30 cents and soup noodle with some cha-siow (babecued pork) was 50 cents. mmm money was big then.
I loved the 'oh kueh' (yam cake with chilli, chai poh and chang on top. that was really yummy. And so was the kueh changkeh (green on top and brown at the bottom)and also the kueh salat (green kaya on top and glutinous rice below. We used to order their kueh for parties, yes, in those days we had parties at home!
