Old Friends...
Sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends
Can you imagine us years from today,
Sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends, memory brushes the same years,
Silently sharing the same fears
By Simon & Garfunkel
Yesterday I picked up a DVD (good buy!) on a live concert (Old Friends: Live on Stage) by Simon and Garfunkel from Gramophone, CentrePoint, Orchard Rd. My wife and I love many of their songs. The opening number is 'Old Friends' and the words are still as meaningful and poignant as when I first heard them. Thought I would share them with you if you have not come across them before. Cheers, my old friends!

Thanks for sharing that with us. On your next trip back bring along this CD to let us have a listen. Better still burn a couple of cds for us! ;)
"How terribly strange to be seventy"
Many years ago I saw a man coming down the stairs with this printed on his polo-shirt "Life Begins At 50!" and I thought it was strange ... Strange no more now! ;)
mmm..Why wait for me to bring the CD? You can get their album in any good CD store. This song is so beautifully composed and sung by the two. Quite mesmeric and haunting tune..
the dtan- it may be a shock to you living too long away from kuching but i challenge you to find a 'good CD store' here! *sigh*
